Job Description Summary

The Social Work Department invites applications for a full time, tenure track position at the rank of Associate Professor (preferred) or Assistant Professor (required) to begin August 2018. The department seeks candidates committed to teaching excellence at a comprehensive institution that supports both liberal arts curricula and professional programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching in the Greater Rochester Collaborative Master of Social Work Program of Nazareth College and the College at Brockport, SUNY and in the BSW Program of Nazareth College and will preferably possess skills necessary for administrative departmental leadership.

Located in the School of Health and Human Services with a focus on interprofessional collaboration, the Social Work Department has approximately 85 undergraduate students in the BSW program and 200 graduate students in the Collaborative MSW program.

The mission of the Social Work Department is “to educate ethical, competent social workers prepared to engage in strengths-based practice, to advance human rights as well as social and economic justice and respect for diversity.” The mission of the GRC MSW Program is “to educate students to become competent and ethical professional social workers who will promote social and economic justice and equality through collaborative community focused practice that reflects the rights, needs and dignity of all people.”

Both the MSW and BSW programs are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

The successful candidate will have primary responsibility to teach across the social work curriculum from generalist to advanced practice and policy primarily in the graduate program site in downtown Rochester; rotational assignment in the BSW program and/or one of the satellite sites; curriculum development, advisement, and service to the program and department as assigned: college and community engagement and service; active scholarly activity.

Required Education

Applicants should have a doctoral degree and possess an MSW from a CSWE accredited or approved program.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Two years post-MSW practice experience is required. Candidates should be eligible to obtain the LMSW (minimum) in the state of New York. Demonstrated commitment and effectiveness in serving diverse student populations, and dedication to building a diverse and inclusive teaching and learning environment. Demonstrated agenda for scholarship.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching with preference given to candidates with previous teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level in social work with experience with CSWE accreditation process. Clinical practice experience in mental health and/or substance abuse, as well as knowledge of social policy and advocacy is desired. Preference for candidates with demonstrated leadership roles in an educational/academic setting with potential for immediate social work leadership as a program director or department chair. Experience with a variety of teaching methods and with development and delivery of hybrid or online courses. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
