Job Description Summary

The Religious Studies Department invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2018. The department seeks candidates committed to undergraduate teaching excellence at a comprehensive institution that supports both liberal arts curricula and professional programs. Applicants who will contribute to the college’s commitment to a diverse and inclusive environment are encouraged to apply

Successful candidates will have a specialization in East Asian traditions. We particularly welcome those with an ethnographic approach who are conversant in traditions as practiced in their region of origin as well as in the U.S. diaspora. In addition to teaching courses in area of specialization, the successful candidate will teach an introductory world religions course as well as thematic topics across religions (e.g., religion and gender, health, social justice, environment). The successful candidate must be interested in engaging with local communities and Nazareth’s Hickey Center for Interfaith Studies and Dialogue.

Required Education

Ph.D. in Religious Studies

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to teach non-majors/general education students as well as majors and minors with a
variety of pedagogical approaches, i.e., small group work, writing and reading to learn, lecture, on-site learning. Familiarity with Abrahamic traditions in order to teach introductory and thematic courses. Facility in language of religion(s) of specialization. Willingness to organize and implement short-term study abroad programs

Preferred Qualifications

Teaching experience and evidence of a developing agenda for scholarly work.
